Ways to Save Money on Gas

ways to save money on gasYou may not have any control over the price of gas, but you have plenty of control over the other things that can save you money and heighten fuel efficiency. It’s better for your pocket book and the environment to take a look at these ways to save money on gas and figure out what you can do.

  • Drive less: Limit your driving, map your course, and find more direct ways to get where you need to go. Avoid a “Sunday Drive”, aimlessly driving and burning gas.
  • Get organized: The more organized you are, the less trips you’ll have to make. Get your errands organized and in a logical sequence so you aren’t spending more on gas than necessary.
  • Idol less: Shut your engine off when it doesn’t need to be running.
  • Cheap gas app: Explore an app for your phone designed to help you find cheap gas in relation to where you are driving and save money on gas. Check out Gas buddy and AAA Triptik Here’s a resource for iphone users.
  • Proper tire inflation: Making sure your tires are in good condition, properly aligned, and properly inflated will heighten your fuel efficiency and save you money.
  • Coop: If you belong to a bulk fuel cooperative, check out your options for getting credit for your auto fuel toward your coop and get money back at the end of the year.
  • Carpool: The more you can carpool and take your vehicle off the road (or get gas money from others) the more you save. Look for special perks offered to those embracing carpooling.
  • Coupons and Saver Cards: Your grocery store and gas stations often team up for coupons, punch cards, and other customer loyalty savings. Check into it.
  • Drive better: Simply put, stop hard breaking, fast accelerating, and speeding. It wastes gas and costs more!
  • Fuel Up: Don’t wait until empty and are forced to pay what ever price is set at the nearest gas station. When you aren’t in dire need of gas, you have more saving options.
  • Maintenance: Change your air filter and improve gas mileage
  • Timing: Avoid filling up on weekends and holidays when gas prices usually rise. Fill up on Monday-Wednesday for the lowest prices.
